Honestly, blockchain does not really solve any problems for the financial markets. Basically it is a distributed ledger and it is helpful when logged transactions are being altered.
This is not a huge issue for the financial markets. The cost and complexity to implement and the fact that it would slow down transactions are all really high prices to pay.
Blockchain is fine for cryptocurrency but it has not really found a place outside of that area because the costs outweigh the benefits. And being tied into a blockchain limits other innovation and change; that is a killer for the financial markets, they all need to be very agile.
